Maun Vrat (Silence) - Jain penance
Maun Vrat is the practice of observing complete silence — not just abstaining from speech but also controlling thoughts and gestures. It can be observed for a few hours, a full day, or extended periods. The purpose is to conserve spiritual energy, avoid sin through speech (lying, gossip, harsh words), and turn the mind inward.
Speech is responsible for much of our karma. Silence reduces verbal sins and directs energy inward, accelerating spiritual progress.
