Attham (Atthai) - Jain penance
Attham is a rigorous fast lasting three consecutive days (approximately 72 hours) without consuming food or water. It is commonly observed during Paryushan and Das Lakshan festivals. Some devotees extend this to longer durations like Maskhaman (one month fast).
It represents supreme self-control and devotion. The Jain tradition holds that such penances shed massive amounts of karmic bondage.
