Five verses in praise of Parshvanath, the 23rd Tirthankara. Composed in Prakrit in the gaha metre and traditionally attributed to Acharya Bhadrabahu; one of the Nav Smaran. (1) I bow to Parshva, remover of afflictions, freed from the density of karma, destroyer of the serpent's venom, abode of auspiciousness and welfare. (2) One who always keeps this venom-quelling mantra at their throat finds planetary affliction, disease, epidemic and cruel old age subside. (3) Set the mantra aside — even a bow to you bears abundant fruit, and beings in human and animal births escape misery and want. (4) Having gained right faith in you — greater than the wish-granting gem and the celestial tree — beings reach the ageless, deathless state unhindered. (5) Thus praised, O illustrious one, with a heart brimming with devotion: grant me enlightenment birth after birth, O Parshva, moon among the Jinas.
